Fuel & Chemical
Delivery Systems
TouchStar’s
Fuel & Chemical Delivery Systems, bring
together our powerful software and TouchPC
hardware, for an optimal ‘turn key’ solution.
Wireless or conventional conduits carry
delivery data direct from the meter on
the tanker to the TouchPC system, which
is housed in a cradle in the driver’s
cabin. The vehicle’s load and delivery
history are stored, ready to be sent to
a central distribution centre or dumped
manually in a docking station at the depot.
This way, the distribution centre can keep
an eye on an entire fleet’s activities
and ensure sufficiently loaded tankers
and minimum downtime.
The
TouchPC application also takes care of
the driver’s pre-shift safety checks
and can allow for the presence of several
fuel types within a single trailer. Transactions
may be finalised with
a signature handwritten on the touchscreen,
the final record
being printed
out there and then. |

TouchStar’s
file export system allows each transaction
record to be saved as a file that includes
both a database item and a graphical
image of the original printout.
The net result is a reduction in paperwork and an efficient, manageable means
of distribution that eliminates wasted journeys. Since much of the process
can be automated, a freedom from error is inherent, with measurable benefits.
Factor in the benefits of our expertise and the TouchPC’s user-friendliness,
large screen and durable chassis, and the result is a system uniquely suited
to the rigours and complexities of this working environment.
We are also continually developing GPS and mobile network tracking, which allow
depots to keep an eye on the progress of their fleet and allow amended orders
to be wedged into a round in the most efficient place.
If there’s a single industry sector that can consider itself best served
by TouchStar, it would have to be the fuel & chemical delivery industry.
While development in the sector has not taken place at the expense of other
sectors, we have built up such a level of expertise in delivery automation
and logging that our solutions are now considered standard. Bespoke solutions
are available for a variety of different fuel & chemical types and delivery
scenarios including, but not limited to, the following;

TouchStar and ATEX certification
The ATEX Directive
was finalised by the European Parliament
in 1994 and was designed to offer protection
to employees and members of the public
from the effects of explosions i.e. prevent
explosions from occurring at all or arrest
explosions during the early stages of ignition.
TouchStar
fabricate all our products with the elimination
of
arcing and static electricity as key design
principles. Our Falcon and Eagle handheld
computers are regularly used around refuelling
stations, airport aprons, in factories
and often in enclosed spaces, each of which
represents a specific explosive risk.
All
internal circuitry and mechanical parts,
such as printer motors,
are rigorously tested and are not put into
production until any possible source of
sparking is eliminated. External sockets
and plugs, also potential arcing weak spots,
undergo specific design and manufacture
techniques to avert sparking. Finally,
the polycarbonate shell that is essential
to the hardware’s durability is treated
seriously as a source of static electricity;
we go to great lengths to make sure that
static accumulation is not a danger.
